Love is a Battlefield

My son was on the phone with my Mom, who he calls Vo-Vo (it's Portuguese for grandma), when suddenly he blurted out, "Hey Vo-Vo! You know the biggest book in your house? Well, I love you all the pages in that book!" Apparently, he thought up a new version of his "I love you to infinity game".

I smiled as he listened to her then he said, "Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yeah. Well, I love you 10,000 miles."

I looked over at my little guy, fresh from a bath, all cozy on the couch in his Mario pajamas and I started to get teary. He looked so perfect and sweet, holding the phone to his ear and it melted my heart to hear him talking to my Mom like that.

Again, he took in her reply, "Oh! Uh-huh. Well, I love you all the way into space in a rocket ship."

He listened again as she tried to top him and I should have known the heart-melting wouldn't last.

Because he then grew tired of his own game when he let out a big sigh then said, "You know what? I think we tied."

You just made me get all mushy hearted and weepy :) Your little boy is just so sweet. I love him to Pluto and back!

oh man. Been there. I love that game. Now my oldest daughter is six and she plays I hate you games. Awesome.

That kid never ceases to crack me up.

At least he knows how to quit without hurting Vo-Vo's feelings. :)

He just keeps getting better :)

I'm sure my own mom would love to borrow your son as a surrogate grandchild. She'd plotz to get that kind of love out of any of them.

He's too sweet.

Really? You can tie!! Who knew?

It sounds like he has met his match in Vo-Vo!

That's SO sweet. I can't wait till mine can actually tell his nana and grandma how much he loves them. I already see it (and I have to fight the tears every time, yup, I'm a moosh) so hopefully one day my little one will have a phone conversation like that.

That's so funny! He sounds adorable.

He sounds like a really neat kid. I'd have him (and you) over for a play date any day.

Sigh, how sweet!

Thank you all of you for the laugh!

That is so sweet. He's got such a wonderful heart, he really is a dear boy. :)

That would have made me teary, and smiley, right at the end.

What a great kid.

I didn't know it was possible to tie? I've only known it to turn into an endless match with breaks ending by saying "how much did I say I loved you last time?"

That said, it does offer a good opportunity to go over the order of the solar system. "I love you from the earth to the sun and back to Mars".

This whole thing about pluto not being a planet anymore still messes me up.

Good for Vo Vo and thanks for sharing! Really beautiful!

That is just brilliant.

Can I steal that? Because after 10 minutes... it can get a bit tiresome and really.. I have tweets to write and recipes to take pictures of and you know, internetz to tend too (kidding) {kinda}

He is so precious!!!

Mushy and humorous all at the same time! You son sounds like a wonderful kid. Thanks for the post.

Too sweet, so I am stealing his line to get out of long drawn out monkey conversations.

That's awesome. It's great that grandma played along like that.

Now that's what I call conflict resolution.

tee hee....yeah....that game usually ends in a tie.

They agree to love each other a lot.

(I get bored of that game too.)

That just gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling!

That is sweet. Mine do the arms stretched out bit when I ask how much they love me.

Now that is a great game! How incredibly sweet he sounds!

"I love you 10,000 miles." made MY heart melt!

I just love you, Momo; you and that sweet boy of yours. Thanks for the smiles...
