Life List 1-10

In 2011, I will turn 40 years old. Clearly, it's time I had a mid-life crisis.

There are a lot of things I have never done and tons of things I have yet to accomplish. I don't think it's prudent to put them off any longer.

I am a list maker. I always have at least one list. Sometimes more. There is something about crossing items off a piece of paper to make me feel like my tasks are finalized, that I have completed what I have set out to do. That is the purpose of this list. Well, that and the fact that I am losing brain cells by the day and can't remember 100 things without the benefit of a list.

That's right. I am going to list 100 things on my Life List. Here are the first ten. I don't know when I'll type up the other 90, but let's focus on the fact that I am making forward progress, shall we?

1. Graduate from college. I left college with just a couple of quarters left ("quarters" referencing my time left in school AND the amount of money I had in my pocket). Although my parents helped me enough that I never had to take out a loan, I still worked three jobs to pay for my share of tuition and my books. I rode my bike to school every day so I wouldn't have to pay for parking and every, single day my chain would fall off and I would show up to class covered in grease. I left school when I was offered a job making $30,000 a year working for a mortgage company. I was 20 years old. I thought I would save money and go back. I never did.

2. Run a half marathon. Because, I like to torture myself like that.

3. Travel across the United States in an RV. Probably my greatest dream. Ultimate road trip! Holla!

4. Stand under a Giant Sequoia.

5. Hike into the Grand Canyon.

6. Get published. I have a memoir and a novel in the works. Hey, literary me.

7. Become a Certified Interior Decorator. Not a designer, because oy, the math!

8. Paint a picture. Like a real one. On canvas.

9. Camp in a tent, on a warm beach.

10. Visit all 50 states. I have been to 21 of them, 29 to go!

That's my first ten. What are yours?

I'll have to think about my ten, but I wanted to tell you that Chicago better be a stop on your RV tour! :)
this looks like an awesome list! i have a "bucket list" of sorts, my 110 in 2010, and so far i have pretty much done 60% of it so far, and i still have a few more months to go! i love these kinds of goals-- they are fun and so fufilling.

:) (the RV thing sounds AWESOME!)
ooohhhh...good list! We talk a lot about our dream of selling our house and traveling in an RV.
You should camp on one of the wild horse islands in MD/VA...we aren't too far from there and it's something I really want to do!!
Can't wait to see the rest of your list!
My top ten!
Buy a condo, no more yard
Spend a summer in Italy.
And the next one in Spain.
Get my book published.
Be on dancing with the stars
Really get in shape.
Become a grandfather.
Host SNL.
and...Slap Levi Johnson really hard!

I'm about to turn 30, so I'm about to make a 40 by 40 list. I know one of the things on it is to get a Digital SLR and learn how to use it, and to have one of my photos win a prize.
I like it. But lists have always seemed to have an air of finality to them. I prefer a more simple "karmic guide of goodness -- things I should do." It's a lot less pressing than a list.
Come to my house and you can stand under a Mere Redwood. But it's pretty big! Honest! It's my neighbor's, but it's grown onto my property too now.
p.s. My family did that with a tent trailer the summer I was ten. Drove in a big circle coast to coast, top to bottom, around the country and into Canada and (very very briefly, like, two hours) into Mexico. Trip of a lifetime. I'm so glad we did it. GO!
Wow. I LOVE your list!

My top five:

1. Finish my book
2. Get published
3. Buy my own house
4. Travel to Italy
5. Meet Alec Baldwin
Just wrote a similar post on my blog. It must be going around. LOL!

My list didn’t need a bucket

Your list is WAY better than mine. *hangs head in shame*
Good start to the list. I am anxious to see how you get to 100. Most of my list would involve travel. Lots of things to see. I like the 50 states thing. I would love the RV thing although my wife would not. I would like to visit all 7 continents. Maybe just 6 though because I am not much on cold weather. Making a World Series game would be on there too.
I applaud your list, as well as your organizational skills.
We have some things in common, as far as what would go on my list if I organized enough to write them down.
It does seem like I might be the only person that has no interest in writing a book, however, I always get asked if I am going to.
See the Phillies play their away games in every major league stadium around the country. I have a lot to go. As in a lot.

Oh, and retire to a warm climate. As in hot.
